TIFTON — Friday was a roller-coaster afternoon for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Fillies. They won a 9-8 nine-inning game from visiting Brewton-Parker in the second part of a doubleheader after falling in a shortened 8-0 contest to begin the day.

The Fillies were down 5-0 going into the bottom of the third inning, but finished it with a 6-5 lead. Brewton-Parker tied it in the fourth and each team scored a single run in the sixth and eighth frames.

Carter Gore reached on an error to begin the ninth. With Olivia Britt pinch-running, ABAC quickly moved into scoring position on a steal, then Britt swiped third. Runners were on the corners when Ava Roland walked, then moved up a bag.

Brewton-Parker got one out on a pop-up, but another error let Britt score and the Fillies win the marathon.

Most of ABAC’s third-frame comeback came with two down.

Lexi Metts and Ava Maxwell made it on base to start and Alli Eidson drove in Metts with one out. A fielder’s choice — the second out — scored Maxwell.

Gore kept the inning going with a walk and Roland singled to fill the bases. Anna Hutchison cleared the bags with a double, making it a 5-5 game. Bailey Carreker then gave them the lead with another double.

Laney McGee doubled in doubled in Carreker in the eighth after the visitors went ahead by a run. Metts had scored the tying tally in the sixth.

Tess Rollins improved to 2-2 in the circle after tossing the last three frames.

The day began not so sweet for the Fillies.

Brewton-Parker scored once in the first, but big second and third innings resulted in seven more runs.

ABAC had two on in the first, courtesy singles by McGee and Emma Humphrey but two were already out. Gore smoked a liner, but right at third base, who knocked it down and threw over to end the inning.

Eidson reached on a fielder’s choice and made it to second in the third. Hutchison doubled in the fourth, but Brewton-Parker did not let either get any further.

After Brewton-Parker’s early surge, Addison Tyre put out the fire after coming in for relief in the third. Tyre gave up only one earned run in 2.1 innings.
