TIFTON — The City of Tifton began repair work on a sinkhole at a street intersection.
Reportedly five feet deep and roughly four feet in diameter, the road hazard started about a year ago at the intersection between Alabama Drive and Carolina Drive.
With the road receiving a good deal of traffic, from cars and on-foot pedestrians, including children, many Tifton residents reached out to the city for help in fixing the issue, growing more concerned as the problem itself grew, city officials said.
Tifton City Manager Pete Pyrzenski said the issue stems from a hole forming in a hood pipe connected to a nearby storm drain.
Contractors were scheduled to begin work on repairing both the pipe and sinkhole early this month.
