- The flamingos landed at the home of Adam Hathaway and family, Heather and Sariah, for the annual Flamingo Flocking fundraiser that's been going on for more than 20 years. Hathaway's home was the first stop for the flock before the flamingos flew to their next destinations.
TIFTON – When Tift County Schools Superintendent Adam Hathaway walked outside his house to go to work last week in cold and windy weather, he noticed a flock of flamingos in his front yard.
The Hathaway house was the first stop for the flamingos this year. The annual Flamingo Flocking campaign raises money to fight child abuse. Funds raised from the annual event support projects in the community focusing on child abuse prevention or intervention.
“I am very honored that they selected me to start this project,” Hathaway said. “This is a great organization and they do great things with the money that they are afforded.”
The Tift County Council on Child Abuse has sponsored the fundraiser for more than 20 years. For people and businesses that get flocked with a group of pink, plastic flamingos, a donation to the TCCCA sends the flamingos on to the next location.
After the initial flocking, the flamingos divide into two flocks, which migrate around town with help from the all-volunteer staff of the Council on Child Abuse.
The Tift County Council on Child Abuse, an all-volunteer agency, meets at noon, third Tuesday of each month, 418 N. Ridge Ave.
