Tift reports handful of new virus cases

TIFTON — Tift County reported a handful of new COVID-19 cases during the past week.

Tift County had reported 101 deaths by early in the week – all since the start of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The county has recorded 29 probable COVID-19-related deaths.

Tift County has reported more than 3,480 cases since the pandemic began last year, according to the GDPH, and more than 1,475 antigen cases; antigen cases are results from rapid virus tests.

The county has reported 423 Tift residents have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the GDPH. That represents four more patients hospitalized – the highest number of hospitalizations reported in months.

Statewide, more than 901,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Georgia since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The state had reported more than 18,400 deaths.

Georgia has reported about 230,000 antigen cases since the start of the pandemic. 

More than 64,600 people have been hospitalized across the state due to COVID-19, according to the report, with more than 10,900 admitted to an ICU.

More than 7.9 million state residents have been vaccinated, according to state health officials.
