THOMASVILLE – The Southern Regional Technical College Board of Directors joined the prestigious 100% Club at the recent Technical College Directors Association and Technical College Foundation Association Leadership Conference in Savannah in October.

All seven members of SRTC’s Board of Directors completed individual certification training and are now fully certified, distinguishing the board as a Certified Board of Directors.

The seven-member board is comprised of community leaders representative of the SRTC service area, which encompasses Colquitt, Decatur, Early, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Thomas, Tift, Turner, and Worth counties. The SRTC Board of Directors is led by Board Chair Dawn Johns of Colquitt County and includes Lt. Tonero Bender of Colquitt County, Marjorie Mayfield of Decatur County, Brad Barber of Decatur County, Tonia Garrett of Tift County, Toni Reid of Tift County, and Jim Carter of Thomas County.

Each Board member has the option to become a Certified Board Member through TCDA’s workshops, covering community advocacy, governance, budget and financial management, and more.

Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Greg Dozier recognized the SRTC Board of Directors for earning TCDA board certification. Commissioner Dozier also acknowledged SRTC President Jim Glass and presented the college’s Board of Directors with a plaque commemorating their 100% certification achievement. SRTC Board Chair Dawn Johns accepted the plaque with President Glass. Additionally, SRTC Board of Directors member Brad Barber attended the TCSG Leadership Conference.

The TCDA’s mission is to enhance the capability of local boards of directors to elevate the value of technical and adult education in Georgia. The local boards, created by Georgia state statute, aid the TCSG Board in fulfilling its mission. Their primary purposes are to advise on program direction, provide a check and balance for college goals and objectives, and advocate for the technical college system and workforce development efforts.

TCFA Board members were also in attendance at the conference. The TCFA supports the Technical College System of Georgia through marketing, advocacy, and fundraising to benefit college students, programs, and faculty. All TCSG affiliate college foundation members are automatically TCFA members.

The local Boards of Directors and Foundation Boards are all members of TCDA and TCFA. Robby Pitts of the SRTC Foundation Board of Trustees attended on behalf of the SRTC Foundation. The SRTC Foundation Board of Trustees once again earned Role Model Board distinction, a merit they have maintained for more than 10 years.
