Tift cross country has final tune-up ahead of combined region, sectional meet

TIFTON — Tift County cross country teams will compete for Region 1-6A and sectional honors Saturday in Rochelle.
Teams from Region 1, 4, 7 and 8 will be at the meet. Boys will run at 8:30 a.m., with girls to follow at about 9:15. The course is located at and around Wilcox County Middle and High School on GA 215.
Tift teams had their last competition before sectionals last Saturday, running in the aptly-named Bleckley’s Last Chance Sectional Tune-Up Invitational, which took place in Cochran.
The Blue Devils ended the regular season strong, fourth as a group at Bleckley. Lowndes was first, with four runners in the top 10.
Owen Davies and Russ Benton both ran in the top 15. Davies was 11th in 17:37 and Benton was 15th in 17:57. Anthony Falotico and Henry Anderson had times under 19 minutes. Jaxson Hughes, Oscar Martinez and Seth Denham clocked in under 20 minutes. Kason Horner missed that mark by only a few seconds.
Lola Reynolds ran 12th overall, finishing in 22:33. Illianna Cleveland’s time of 25:01 earned her 26th. Jana Webster was also in the top 45. Emmalyn Lukas, Claire Martin and Alexa Maag ran at Bleckley as well.
As a team, the Lady Devils were seventh of 13. The only other team from Region 1-6A to run was Lowndes, who placed fourth.
Should Tift quality for state, that would be Saturday, Nov. 9 at Carrollton.
