TIFTON — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College wrapped up its second consecutive district tournament championship Wednesday, but might not bring up the most pleasant of memories in the future.
The Stallions had only one day on the links at Innsbruck Resort and Golf Club in Helen for the NJCAA District J championship. “Conditions were incredible,” said Stallions’ head coach Larry Byrnes. He described the weather as “nasty and terrible.”

ABAC shot 321 as a team, which tied them with Fayetteville Technical Community College (N.C.), though the Stallions earned the championship.
Byrnes said out of the 37 golfers on the course for the tournament, only five shot below an 80. Par for the course is 72, according to Golfstat.
Thankfully, one of those competitors was ABAC’s Adam Park, who notched a 78. Ryan Walters had an 80, Andrew Nagel an 81 and Will Bozeman an 82. Trevor Dailey also competed in the tournament.
“I’m extremely proud of them,” said Byrnes. “They all gutted it out.”
In addition to district, ABAC had the top score for the NJCAA Region 17 championship, which was concurrent with the District J championship. The team total of 321 gave them a 13-stroke victory over Andrew College with Georgia Military College third.
Byrnes picked up an honor of his own at the tournament, Coach of the Year. This is the second straight win for him.

He said the award was less for him and more for his athletes.
“It’s all about the kids,” he said.
By winning the tournament, ABAC will play in the NJCA Div. II national championships. That tourney will take place May 20-25 in Foley, Ala.
