City considers second pay incentive for city employees

TIFTON — City council members discussed providing the city’s employees with a pay incentive much like what they had received the prior year during their most recent meeting.

Hoping to offset the struggles they were likely facing as a result of rising inflation since the coronavirus pandemic, acting city manager and chief financial officer Larry Lawrence proposed a pay incentive for all city employees at the Nov. 4 city council workshop.

Lawrence reported that this program would be similar to what the city employed last year, in which employees were provided stipends corresponding to how much time they had worked with the city.

He noted that this would be the last such pay bump, as the incentive was being paid for by ARPA funds, which the city would need to expend by the end of the year.

Council members elected to discuss the incentive further at their next meeting later this month.
