TIFTON — The women’s soccer team at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) is preparing for their first scrimmage game of the season on Aug. 15, against Brewton-Parker College.

The team has five sophomores returning to the team this year, along with 10-12 new freshmen players. The team captains for the team will be goal keeper Ashley Haddock and left back Caroline Infinger.

“Last year these two players went over and beyond,” said head coach Aliriza Sisman. “They were constantly providing support to all their team members in addition to taking on responsibility and initiative whenever it was necessary.”

According to Sisman, he is looking forward to the upcoming season. The players have been following a summer workout and running to prepare.

“Every game, every practice leads to better performance, so I look forward to seeing how far we can go,” said Sisman.

The 2019 season will feature more scrimmage games than the previous season. The team will play six times in August with five at home and one away.

“I have increased the number of scrimmage games this year because that helps the learners develop their game fitness,” said Sisman. “It also gives us the opportunity to see how we are applying what we are learning during trainings.”

Last year the team only played one scrimmage game. Sisman decided it would be a good decision to increase the amount of scrimmage games.

“Games help reveal the teams and each team players strengths and areas needing improvement,” said Sisman. “Based on that holistic assessment, we can focus on the teams technical and tactical improvements.”

The team is holding open tryouts when the first week of school starts Aug. 13, for ABAC students interested in playing soccer this year. The first scrimmage game on Aug. 15 will take place at ABAC and will start at 5 p.m.
