TIFTON — A former City of Tifton employee was arrested after an investigation into fraudulent financial transaction card use, according to a press release from the Tifton Police Department.
Brandon Demetrious Howard, 30, turned himself in to the Tifton Police Department on Nov. 22 to answer charges, according to a press release from Captain Steve Hyman with the TPD.
The release states that Howard, who had been employed with the city as an administrative assistant since June 10, 2019, was placed on administrative leave on Nov. 12 after concerns surfaced about suspicious expenditures.
“Howard’s official duties required access to certain financial accounts while employed with the city,” the release states. “Early in November, Howard’s expenditures were analyzed and suspicious charges were found on Howard’s City of Tifton Visa card.”
According to the release, Howard has been charged with six counts of felony financial transaction card fraud as a result of the investigation.
Howard has been terminated from his employment with the city and the investigation is ongoing, the release states.
