ATLANTA — Tift County Commissioner Melissa Hughes was recently sworn in to serve on the 2019-2020 Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG or Georgia’s County Association) Board of Managers as third vice president, according to a press release.

Hughes was sworn in by Governor Brian Kemp during a special luncheon that took place during the 2019 ACCG Annual Conference at the Savannah Convention Center in Chatham County.

“I am humbly pleased and excited to fill my role as 3rd VP of ACCG,” Hughes said in the release. “Although I have been a public servant for the past 10 years, this position will allow me the opportunity to expand my public service not only in my community of Tifton-Tift County, but now, I have the honor to serve all 159 counties here in the great state of Georgia. As a servant leader, I am reminded of a quote by Carl Gustav Jung: “You are what you do, and not what you’ll say you will do.”

“On behalf of the association staff and our membership, I would like to congratulate the newly installed ACCG Board of Managers,” said executive director Dave Wills. “Each spring, ACCG welcomes its new leaders, and we remain fortunate to be led by a group of true public servants who possess a sincere appreciation for improving Georgia’s local communities. We look forward to serving the citizens of Georgia under the direction of our new Board.”

As ACCG third vice president, Hughes will work alongside other board members to lead the association and guide policies over the next year. The ACCG Board of Managers will continue to work on initiatives which focus on increasing county efficiencies, enhancing continuing education offerings and fostering strong relationships between counties, the state and federal government.
