WASHINGTON, D.C. — Grant Metts and Jane Anne Veazey, both of Tifton, recently completed six-week internships in Washington, D.C. with U.S. Representative Austin Scott (R-GA-08).

Metts is a graduate of Tift County High School and is currently pursuing a degree in Political Science at the University of Georgia. Veazey is also a graduate of Tift County High School and is currently pursuing a degree in Agricultural Communications at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

“Our internship program provides college students and recent graduates an opportunity to learn more about the legislative process while gaining valuable work experience. It allows them to experience how our federal government works firsthand,” said Rep. Scott. “Students who intern with our office are an integral part of our team, and Grant and Jane Anne are certainly no exception. We thank them for their hard work and attentiveness to the people of Georgia’s Eighth District this summer, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth and success.”

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to intern for Congressman Scott’s office in D.C.” said Metts. “It was an amazing experience that allowed me to learn more about the political processes of Washington while also being submerged into a new city and culture. One of the most rewarding parts of the internship was meeting and interacting with the constituents of GA-08 when they visited or called into our D.C. office.”

“As an intern in Rep. Austin Scott’s office this summer, I have made memories that will last a lifetime.” said Veazey. “Whether I was running into various leaders of our nation, or meeting the wonderful staff, legislative advocates, and constituents who came by the office, this summer gave me unforgettable experiences. It was equally memorable being able to see the disaster relief bill pass. Growing up in a farming family in Tifton, I know firsthand the troubles that farmers are facing. I deeply believe that this internship has better prepared me to enter the workforce once I graduate, and I am grateful to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Representative Austin Scott for giving me this opportunity.”

Congressman Scott offers internships to college-aged students, and those who have recently graduated from college with an interest in the legislative process. Young constituents selected to be interns have the opportunity to gain a comprehensive view of the practices and procedures of a Congressional office and how the legislative process works. In some cases, college students may be able to obtain academic credit.
