Man charged after early-morning tirade

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County man who was found on the ground Friday morning when police and emergency personnel arrived  recovered enough to scream vulgarities, stand up unsteadily, urinate and, oh yeah, go to jail. When police arrived about 12:48 a.m., a group of people was standing around the man, identified as Benjamin Albert Allen, at 125 First St. S.E. When EMTs got to the scene, police said, Allen began getting “agitated and aggressive,” started using vulgarities, and had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. An officer offered to give Allen a ride home if he gave an address, to which he responded with a vulgar phrase. Allen then exposed himself and urinated in public, at which time police arrested him. Allen, 30, 2315 Old Albany Road, was charged with public indecency and disorderly conduct.

Marine Corps League unit renamed

DALTON, Ga. — Whitfield and Murray County area Marine Corps League members turned out recently to host the top officer of the Georgia Marine Corps League at their October meeting. State Commandant Randy Barnes conducted the official ceremony to rename the Dalton-based unit as the Cpl. Glenn Pair Detachment 1309, Marine Corps League, in honor of the late Vietnam veteran who was a charter member. The original charter was established on June 30, 2008, with Sgt. Matt Farrell, another Vietnam vet, as first commandant. A very special person at the Oct. 21 meeting was member Judy Pair, the widow of Cpl. Pair who passed away earlier this year and was buried with military honors in a Marine funeral service at West Hill Cemetery. The Glenn Pair Detachment is involved in a number of activities, including the annual Toys for Tots drive at Christmastime, hosting a Community Day each spring in honor of all those who served in the U.S. armed forces and supporting veterans and other senior citizens in nursing homes and assisted living centers. Anyone who has served in the Marines or other branch of service can join the Marine Corps League.
