LEESBURG — Tift County’s soccer teams divided Region 1-6A matches at Lee County Tuesday, Feb. 28. Both were extremely close. The Lady Devils won in penalty kicks, 5-4, with the Trojans shading the Devils, 2-1.
Sherri Constable, head coach of the Lady Devils, said the match was well played by both sides.

The finish was even more of a thriller than penalty kicks usually provide. Five shooters in, both teams had three goals.
“So it was sudden death with the next five shooters,” she said. Both sides missed the first attempt. Elli Warren made hers. Diana Reducindo saved Lee’s kick to end the game.
The Lady Devils are now 5-3-1 on the year, 2-2 in 1-6A.
Head coach Bobby Earls did not think his team played as well at Lee as they have in other recent games. “We knew it would be a rebuilding year,” he said.
Earls gave goalie Mike Taylor credit for keeping the score as close as it was. Taylor had another penalty kick save in the contest.
Tift is set to host Houston County Friday, March 3. It will be another 11 days after that for their next home match, the makeup date against Thomas County Central.
