TIFTON — When Dr. Janet L. Koposko saw a job posting for a job at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, it seemed like a good fit for her.
“When I came for the interview,” she said, while on her way to teach human growth and development, one of the four classes she is teaching during her first year at ABAC, “I liked the sense of being in a place with a smaller department and it seemed like a very cooperative environment.
“I also learned that ABAC has grown a lot over the past couple of years, and I was amazed that they went from a primarily two year college to having so many new programs in such a short time span.”
The small, welcoming aspect of the college is a feature that new and returning students highlight as being something they like about attending.
Loryn Brown, a biology major, who is taking Koposko’s class, said that she really liked how the faculty was supportive and always willing to help students
Freshman Tyler Knight, a nursing major, said that ABAC was a lot smaller than his first choice school, but that the nursing program here is better.
Tresalyn Handy, another nursing major, said that she has an associates degree from a technical college, and said she really liked that ABAC lets students get books and class information before the classes start instead of a few days into taking the class.
The human growth and development class is a required class for several different majors, including both the Associate and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree programs.
The BSN program is one of 13 bachelor’s degree programs, five of which are newly approved for the fall semester.
Enrollment is expected to be over 3,400 this fall.
