TIFTON — The Tift County Board of Commissioners is moving ahead with its renovation plans for the E.B. Hamilton Sports Complex.

Commissioners unanimously moved to partner with contractors Intrepid Building Systems and Jack Knight Electric to construct a maintenance building and upgrade the lighting systems of the sports complex, respectively, during their Dec. 9 meeting.

Intrepid will be tasked with constructing a 65 foot by 43 foot building, laying a concrete slab, and installing utilities, while Jack Knight has been assigned the job of upgrading the lighting system and the electrical boxes supporting them.

During the previous county commission meeting, public works director Jason Jordan reported that Intrepid’s construction project would begin in late February or March of next year, costing $480,437, while the work from Jack Knight would only take around 90 days to finish and cost $409,632.

Consulting company Watkins and Associates has also been brought on to aid in overseeing the projects, assisting in both for a total of $90,791.

Funding for these contracts is expected to be taken from grant funds and reserves.
