County property tax bill distribution estimated for January

TIFTON — County residents may need to wait until the start of next year to receive their property tax bills.

With the tax digest still a work in progress and millage rates yet to be set, Tift County Tax Commissioner Chad Alexander has announced that property tax bills are anticipated to be released in mid to late January of 2025.

Alexander reports that the delay is the result of an unusual year of a total revaluation the county had been mandated to undertake and the large number of appeals that had been received as a result of it — a phenomenon he notes he has not seen since becoming the county tax commissioner.

Due to Tift County ranking below value on the state sales ratio study, it was required to undergo total revaluation, which the county government has attempted to conduct over the last couple of months.

As of now, the county is working on completing the tax digest and setting a millage rate, at which point they will be able to send out property tax bills to county residents.

Alexander has asserted that next year’s tax bills are planned to be distributed at their originally planned dates.
