TIFTON — Cook Medical Center’s emergency services in Adel will be closing down.

According to a press release from Tift Regional Health System (TRHS), the Cook Medical ER will close 11:59 p.m., Feb. 28.

Its emergency services will consolidate with Tift Regional Medical Center’s emergency room.

The ER consolidation is being done to “ensure the long-term sustainability and expansion of other hospital-based services offered in Cook County,” according to the release.

Chris Dorman, TRHS president and chief operating officer, pointed to several reasons for the closure in the release.

Chief among them was the Cook Medical Center operating at a $2.6 million loss every year since 2012, with the emergency room being a heavy contributor to that loss.

After Cook Medical Center’s emergency services close, extended hours will be offered at Cook Family Wellness Center.

The wellness center will be open 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
