TIFTON — Tift County is looking into purchasing a set of high-visibility rain jackets for use by the county sheriff’s department.

County commissioners debated making an application for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia Safety Grant to purchase reflective rain coats at the May 1 meeting.

Miriam Jordan, county clerk, said the ACCG Workers Compensation Fund annually accepts applications for employee safety grants and Tift County would be eligible for up to $6,000 if the application is approved.

The total cost of the purchase would be $9,050; however, but Jordan said the remaining expenses would be paid by the sheriff’s office.

County commissioners moved to discuss the application further at the May 8 meeting.
