TIFTON — Tift County will be managing elections for the cities of Ty Ty and Omega this year.

The Tift County Board of Commissioners unanimously agreed to oversee the electoral processes of both cities at the July 10 meeting.

County Manager Jim Carter said normally the two cities held their own elections, offset with the county, but due to the upcoming special purpose local option sales tax referendum and the current structure of the voting system, it would be impossible for the municipalities to vote in both city and county elections on a single ballot without the support of the county.

Through this agreement, Ty Ty and Omega would contract the county to provide for and fund their elections while also allowing them to use a single voting machine for the elections.
