TIFTON — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s golf team is gearing up for another edition of the Stallion Invitational. Practice is Feb. 26, with play beginning Feb. 27 at 8:15 a.m. at Spring Hill Country Club. Play will take place over two days.

Head coach Larry Byrnes said the lineup will consist of 14 teams, plus five more schools are bringing individual golfers. Seventy-five golfers are to play. Teams hail from Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.

ABAC’s lineup is a veteran one with Brady Kostkiewicz, Brock Barber, Hagen Marion, Benjamin Sanders and Kole Williams all having major playing time last year. A freshman from Columbus, Stewart Rustin, has pushed his way into the lineup.

“All seven are very competitive,” said Byrnes. He’s waiting on the big results. “We haven’t put it all together yet,” he said.

Byrnes thinks his lineup is capable of defending its home turf at the Stallion Invitational. Not that any of these teams mind whose greens they are playing on, he said. Many of the opponents have been national champion teams.

“The field is very strong,” Byrnes said.

After its own tournament, the Stallions are scheduled for the GlenLakes Invitational in March, plus the region tournament and district tournament in April.
