TIFTON — Tropical Storm Nicole is beginning to make its presence felt in the Tifton area.
Rain arrived Thursday morning as Nicole’s outer bands began to reach Georgia. What is left of the storm’s eye was between Tampa and Orlando, Fla., as of 1:15 p.m. The Weather Channel expects rain to continue in Tifton until late Friday afternoon.
Though Nicole’s winds have been light locally, a few power outages have been reported. Colquitt EMC reported 159 customers in the Tifton area without electricity, an area on their outage map which extends into Berrien, Cook and Irwin counties.
Georgia Power, however, reported no homes in Tift, Cook, Berrien, Irwin, Ben Hill, Turner and Worth counties without power, as of 1:15 p.m.
The area remains under a tropical storm warning.
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College closed at noon Thursday, but announced classes would resume as usual Friday, Nov. 11.
Tift County public schools were open Thursday, but did cancel afternoon middle school sporting events. No announcements have been made about school on Friday.
