TIFTON — Georgia Museum of Agriculture hosted the Wiregrass Farmers Market annual County Fair Saturday, July 13.

Visitors had the opportunity to sample cakes, salsa, cookies and sweet bread. According to Amy Hightower, board member of The Wiregrass Farmers Market, the cakes seemed to be the favorite category to sample for participants.

“The cakes are beautiful to look at,” said Hightower. “You have some people who make gorgeous looking cakes where they decorate them on the outside and make them taste good on the inside.”

The Farmers Market was set up outside of the Peanut Museum for visitors to purchase a variety of items like fresh groceries, artwork and handmade knives.

The judges for this year’s categories were from the Tifton Junior Woman’s Club.  The Miss Forestry Pageant participants came out to the fair to show kids how to make watermelon fans.

“I think we had a great County Fair,” said Hightower. “We had more entries than we did last year and we had new exciting categories.”

The Wiregrass Farmers Market is considering having another county fair in the fall. The categories are not final but they have discussed ideas such as a pumpkin decorating contest.

The farmers market has two more Saturdays before they finish off their summer season after that. The Farmers Market will open again in October and will continue through November.

The following first place prizes were awarded to winners of the County Fair:

Best Cake- Amanda Perry.

Prettiest Flower Display- Lisa Biles.

Best Sweet Bread- Lisa Baxter.
