TIFTON — Tifton will soon be joining the ranks of other Georgia film locations as filming of parts of “The Tiger Rising” will come to the Pink Motel.

The filming was confirmed by Amy Boland with production company Thomasville Pictures.

Boland said that they are working to bring more of the lucrative film industry that is seeing a surge in Atlanta to other parts of the state.

Parts of the filming will take place in Thomasville and other parts will be filmed in Tifton at the Town Terrace Motel, which will be temporarily renamed the Kentucky Star Motel for the film.

Queen Latifah, Dennis Quaid, Katherine McPhee and Christian Convery are starring in the film, which is an adaptation of a children’s book of the same name.

The book, written by “Because of Winn-Dixie” author Kate DiCamillo, centers on a young boy, Rob, who finds a caged tiger in the woods behind the hotel where he lives with his father as they try to start their lives over after the death of Rob’s mother.

Boland said that film crews will be in town on and and off through December 21 but did not give out detailed dates because of security concerns.

Tifton residents are also asked to mind any road closures related to the filming.

Captain Steve Hyman with the Tifton Police Department said that any road closures will not affect people being able to get to businesses or homes in the area.

Additionally, Boland asked people to be on the lookout for $2 bills, which the crew will be using for local purchases around town. They’re calling it the “mark of the tiger,” according to Boland.

She said that after filming is completed it will take an additional seven to eight months to complete production on the movie, which they are hoping will be out in the fall of 2020.
