Local bar raided by FBI, IRS: Updated

TIFTON — The Gin, a popular bar for college-aged Tifton residents, was raided Tuesday morning by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service, according to a statement from FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett.
The FBI and IRS served and executed search warrants on businesses and homes in Milledgeville, Valdosta and Statesboro, among other places, according to the statement.
Macon’s 13WMAZ reported that two businesses raided in Milledgeville were also bars.
There is no official word on specifics about the ongoing investigation. The details cannot be discussed at this time, said Emmett.
There were no homes searched in Tifton, but there was a home searched in addition to the three bars searched in the Valdosta area, according to The Valdosta Daily Times.
The Valdosta bars were BlueWater Saloon, Milltown Groove and Sand Bar (formerly Flip Flops).
Update:
It has been confirmed that the owner of The Gin is William P. Britt of Statesboro. His name is listed at the licensee of Taft and Harding On Park Avenue, LLC, which is listed as the owner of The Gin.
According to The Statesboro Herald, federal agents seized documents from Britt’s home in Statesboro as well as a number of businesses owned by him around the state.
Some of those businesses include Dillinger’s in Americus and Capitol City bar and 119 Chops restaurant in Milledgeville, both of which are owned by Britt’s brother, Trey Britt.
