ABAC honors employees with service awards

TIFTON — Donna Campbell, coordinator for the Department of Education and Wellness in Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s School of Arts and Sciences, was awarded Associate Professor Emerita of Health and Physical Sciences at the college’s annual Faculty & Staff Awards and Service Recognition presentation.

Also awarded for excellence in their areas were:

— Diantha Ellis, a professor in the Stafford School of Business, received the W. Bruce and Rosalyn Ray Donaldson Award for Teaching Excellence.

— Dr. Mary Ellen Hicks, a professor of animal science in the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, received the W. Bruce and Rosalyn Ray Donaldson Award for Excellence in Advising.

— Sara Malinowski, a program support specialist for Housing and Student Affairs, received the Roy Jackson Sr. Award for Staff Excellence.

— Jessica Miller, ABAC’s bursar in the Department of Finance and Operations, received the E. Lanier Carson Leadership Award;

— Dr. Austin Moore, an assistant professor in the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, received the W. Bruce and Rosalyn Ray Donaldson Award for Excellence in Student Engagement.

“These awards represent the best of the best and all of the recipients excel in their fields,” said ABAC President Tracy Brundage. “They exemplify what makes ABAC special. I always enjoy the feedback from their peers highlighted in the presentations. Each winner, in their unique way, positively impacts our students and that’s the biggest compliment I can give them.”

Topping the list of Service Award winners was Shirley Wilson, an assistant in the Office of Student Affairs, who was honored for 40 years at ABAC. Wilson began her career at the college in 1984 as a senior secretary for the Student Center/Admissions department. In 1991, she moved to the Division of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, where she worked with such notable figures as Coach Red Hill and Wayne Cooper.

Hicks was also recognized for 35 years of service to the college along with Director of Marketing Services Cindy Barber. Barber began as a Senior Secretary in the Office of Alumni in 1989 before moving to the Computer Center, first as a microcomputer support specialist in 1994, and then as an institutional resource coordinator in 1997. In her current role, she oversees the development of marketing content for ABAC.

Hicks started at ABAC in 1989, progressed to her current rank of professor in 2005, and is currently the only faculty member to have been awarded the Donaldson Award for Excellence in Advising (2011), Excellence in Teaching (2013) and Excellence in Student Engagement (2019).

Employees honored for 25 years of service included Dr. Renata Elad, Philip Hightower and Beverly Wesley.

Honored for 20 years of service were Emily Cheek, Debbie Pyles, Dr. Jeffrey Ross and Spencer Stewart.

Fifteen-year award recipients include Dr. Kingsley Dunkley, Cyndy Hall, Dr. Jennifer Harper, Melissa Harrell, Joseph Johnson, John Layton, Dr. Dave Nelson and Mickie Tompkins.

Award recipients for 10 years of service included David Bass, Adam Brumfield, Tim Carpenter, Shubha Chatterjee, Kitty Davis, Sue Dees, Kaycee Jones, Dr. Franzelle Mathis-Pertilla, Sara Malinowski, Lisa Pryor, Dr. Russell Pryor, Jessica Miller and Kaci West.

Employees recognized for five years of service included Amanda Brown, Salathea Clark, Joshua Clements, Chris Earls, Vonda Fenn, Susanne Greene, Chloe Holbrook, Debra Howard, Jennifer Huang, Yolanda Jackson, Jay Johnson, Kimberly Jones, Dr. Mark Kistler, Barbara Lampkin, Cynthia Lawson, Dan Miller, Michael Moore, Jennifer Morrell, Farish Mulkey, Sarah Norris, Gamara Osby, Dr. Sergio Pichardo, Scott Pierce, Tremayne Porter, David Reid, Bonnie Rewis, Zhaolin Shi, Naomi Sims, Brenda Smith, Amanda Walker and Catherine Wiseman.
