TIFTON — Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation have temporarily closed the southbound on-ramp to Interstate 75 at the U.S. 41 Interchange (Exit 64) during bridge reconstruction associated with an on-going project in Tifton.
Drivers wishing to get on I-75 at this location and travel south will be detoured on U.S. 41 North to Brighton Road (Exit 66). The southbound off-ramp from I-75 to U.S. 41, however, will remain open. This stage construction is expected to last approximately 30 days, weather permitting, at which time the on-ramp will be re-opened, Area Engineer Scott Chambers said.
The DOT notes that the above construction schedules are proposed activities planned by the contractors and may change due to weather conditions or other factors. For up-to-the-minute traffic information concerning lane closures, motorists may call the GDOT Traffic Management Center at 1-888-635-8287 or 1-404-624-2653. As in any work zone, motorists should pay special attention to traffic control devices, signing and marking, and posted speed limits to ensure safe passage through the work zone.
Official Georgia Highway and Transportation maps are available to the public free of charge at all DOT offices, rest areas and welcome centers to aid motorists in making travel plans.
