TIFTON — Tift County Fire/Rescue has partnered with Pink Heals, Inc, a program that focuses on fundraising and supporting people battling cancer.

“We want the community to get behind it,” said Captain Billy Young. He said that the focus is on bringing the community together, and stressed that all the funds raised stay in the local community.

For their first time fundraising, TCFR is partnering with the Southeast Chapter of Pink Heals to sell T-shirts for $15.

All the funds will go to local people who need support and financial help while going through cancer treatments. They also want to use some of the funds to purchase pink bunker gear.

Pink Heals is a program that partners with public safety, local businesses and families to bring a community together, according to a press release from TCFR.

While it is a national program which operates by selling merchandise, gifts, local sponsorship and in-kind donations, local chapters partner with local businesses for home visits using pink fire trucks, ambulances and patrol cars as a visual reminder that people matter, not causes.

Young said that the local chapter raises funds and then a local board decided on where the funds get spent, such as gas cards or help with groceries.

The shirts may be purchased at Station 51 located on Tifton Eldorado Road, Station 52 located on Tift Avenue, Barberitos located on 2nd Street and Name Droppers located on Ridge Avenue through October 1.
