TIFTON — Tift County schools welcomed approximately 7900 students for the 2019-2020 school year on Aug. 5.
School Superintendent Adam Hathaway, who is captaining his first year with Tift County, has put an emphasis on unity amongst the schools and student safety, insisting that the safety of Tift County students is a priority.
“We are excited about the 2019-2020 school year.” said Hathaway.
“With this year being year two of our reconfiguration, we are planning a smooth year for our parents, students and staff.”
There are several changes in the schools this year.
The pre-K classes are now housed at each of the elementary schools. They were previously at the Pre-K Center, located at the school on 12th Street. That building is slated to be turned into the new Board of Education offices.
The school system, in partnership with Tift Regional Health System/Southwell, is putting a clinic in Eighth Street Middle School and Annie Belle Clark this year. The clinics will offer a telemedicine option for students and staff at other schools.
New safety upgrades have been made to each school. These safety upgrades were funded from grants from the state specifically targeted at school safety.
