ATLANTA – Tift is one of two counties tapped for OneGeorgia Equity funding from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

The Development Authorities of Wayne County and Tift County will each receive $500,000 for infrastructure enhancements that will benefit the local economy, state officials said in a statement.

The OGA Equity Fund provides financial assistance to rural communities to help build capacity and the necessary infrastructure for economic development.

The program is designed to serve as a flexible community and economic development tool, providing grants and loans for eligible projects in rural Georgia. OGA programs are administered by DCA., state officials said.

The Tift County Development Authority will use the investment to “strengthen road infrastructure on Lamp Loop Road, an area that supports several Tift County businesses and soon up to more than 300 jobs,” state officials said.

Wayne County Industrial Development Authority will use the funds to extend water and sewer service to a newly acquired Wayne Commerce Center to prepare the site for industrial development.

“DCA is committed to bolstering local economies through partnerships and resources, and the utilization of OneGeorgia for these projects illustrates the initiative of the leaders in these communities,” DCA Commissioner Christopher Nunn said. “Strengthening Georgia’s communities through business development and job creation has incredible benefits, which will create a lasting impact.”
