TIFTON — Tifton Mayor Julie Smith said the city is in a “strong” place during her annual message for 2022.

She made the state of the city address during a Tifton City Council special called meeting earlier this month.

Smith looked back on the achievements of the past year and ahead to events to come.

“There is no doubt that the City of Tifton is in a strong position on many fronts,” Smith said. “As we carry out our responsibilities and our obligations to you: our residents, our businesses, our industry and our visitors.”

She praised the city for embracing diversity and inclusion, expressing her belief that Tifton had grown during the past year as a city. In addition, she cited many of the projects and goals that had been completed and reached in 2021, marking it as a display of what the city and those living in it had been able to accomplish together.

Smith closed the address with her expectations for the coming year, stating the importance for the community to encourage possibility and opportunity, but believing that 2022 will be an interesting year to come.

“My commitment is to continue to serve this community with humility, honesty, and transparency,” Smith said. “Our future is bright; we have among our staff employees some of Georgia’s brightest and best. We look forward to serving you in 2022 and welcome your interaction. It’s not my city – it is  our city, and together, we will work to build upon our successes and create opportunities for all who call Tifton a home.”
