Tornado watch for Tift County, south/southwest Georgia

TIFTON — A tornado watch is in effect for Tift County through 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

Tift is one of many counties the watch covers in south and south-west Georgia, northwest Florida and parts of Alabama.

An isolated tornado or two in the affected areas is possible, according to NWS.

Along with the tornado watch, severe storms and heavy rain are possible in the area through Wednesday, according to the NWS.

The stationary front causing the storm is expected to move slowly eastward through Wednesday night.

Tift County’s severe weather outlook is listed as “Slight,” which is a 2 on the NWS’ 5-point scale.

Multiple round of showers and thunderstorms are expected through today and Wednesday.

Damaging wind gusts are possible, which may damage trees and power lines.

Ohter affected Georgia counties include Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Colquitt, Cook, Irwin, lanier, Lowndes, Thomas, Turner and Worth.
