Hi everyone! My name is Jill Holloway and I’m excited to join you in Tifton.
For the past six years, I’ve dedicated myself to newspapers. I previously worked in Bainbridge, Georgia at the Post- Searchlight newspaper as a reporter and later as a Managing Editor. Last year, I moved to Thomasville and began my career at the Thomasville Times- Enterprise. I currently serve as their Managing Editor and will continue to do so, while also serving as the Managing Editor for The Tifton Gazette.
I’m a graduate of the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) and have always had a passion for writing and designing.
I attended Deerfield Windsor in Albany, Georgia and graduated in 2013. While I was in high school, I began scrapbooking as a hobby. I grew to love creatively placing the pictures and adorning them with stickers and captions, so I could always remember those chapters in my life. As graduation loomed and I contemplated what I wanted to do in the next chapter of my life, I looked at my scrapbooks and thought “I wish I could make this my career.”
It turned out that designing newspapers and magazines is as close as it comes.
I attended UA, where I graduated in 2017 with a BA in Journalism and a focus in Magazine Journalism specifically. I minored in Computer Applications and Programming just to be safe, because my parents were convinced newspapers would be completely digital before I graduated. Luckily, they were wrong and I got to follow my dream.
Prior to entering the world of “hard news,” I interned at South Magazine in Savannah, Georgia and completed a social media internship with Indian River Magazine in Vero Beach, Florida. I also was lucky enough to become a lifestyle reporter and help create the concept for Alice Magazine with the University of Alabama’s Creative Media team prior to graduation.
Once I had enough experience under my belt, I applied to several newspapers, before I received the call from The Post- Searchlight.
There, I got a number of amazing experiences, including winning the Emerging Young Journalist Award for the Georgia Press Association and completely revitalizing their Bainbridge Living Magazine.
I loved Bainbridge and the community there. However, I felt it was time for something new and a larger audience.
I am thrilled to now call Thomasville my home, but look forward to working with Tifton as well.
I have family in Tifton and can’t wait to see them more frequently. While I will primarily work from Thomasville during the week, I have every intention of coming to Tifton as much as time allows.
I look forward to getting to know all of you and continuing to navigate my career in this ever-changing field. I encourage anyone with ideas or suggestions on what can be improved to contact me, as I am always looking to drum up new ideas and work with the community.
