ST. SIMONS ISLAND — Frederica Academy brought Tiftarea Academy’s basketball season to an end Wednesday in the first round of the GIAA Class AAA tournament.

Height and an uptempo offense carried the Knights to a 76-34 victory. The hosts were ahead 50-15 at halftime.

Elijah Smith and Thomas Coogle each scored 9 to lead Tiftarea, whose nine victories in 2023-24 were a year removed from a one-win season.

The Panthers had one big highlight near the end of the game, courtesy of Max Reed. Reed was fouled on an offensive rebound, then sank two free throws for the first points of the year for the senior.
