TIFTON — Tift County has brought contractor Southern Concrete Construction on board to work on replacing the Mitchell Store Road bridge over Arnold Creek.
County commissioners moved to award the contract for the construction project to Southern Concrete at the June 12 Tift County Commission meeting, unanimously approving the item as part of the consent agenda.
The project would see the bridge on Mitchell Store Road, just south of the Tifton Landfill, be replaced with a new and updated structure.
At the previous County Commission meeting, Jason Jordan, public works director, said the county had opened a bid for the project May 31. Of the two bids, Underground Investigating Incorporated and Southern Concrete Construction, Southern Concrete was the low bidder at $1,400,898.43.
Funding for the construction is expected to be drawn from funds granted through the Transportation Investment Act.
Jordan said while Southern Concrete would likely not begin work on the project for at least another month and a half, the contractor would likely have construction done relatively quickly once getting to work.
