Letter to the editor: Mueller report a nothingburger

Dear editor,

Well the $30 million nothingburger has been served and with almost two years in the making the Mueller Report is most certainly a cold dish.

It had all of the ingredients of a juicy story that seemed like a plot from a James Bond film. It had a fictitious dossier authored by an ex-British spy who the Clinton campaign paid to get information from the Russian government. A Russian government who, by the way, everyone knows has always been very trustworthy and always had America’s best interests in mind. It was indeed the conspiracy theory of conspiracy theories that was truly unbelievable, yet all too palatable to the gullible.

The fact that the Democratic Party overplayed their hand was not surprising. Sadly, it’s come to be expected and no longer in the annoying way, but in the laughable one. However the media has exposed themselves and perhaps caused irreparable damage to that industry.

To say the press overplayed their hand is an extreme understatement. Every night for nearly two straight years the agenda driven media’s 20 person panels have convicted the President and his administration of a variety of crimes. Newspapers printed stories using anonymous sources and false assertions that were not even tabloid worthy. And you can believe that because that’s what an anonymous source familiar with the conversation told me!

I mean I guess the President isn’t a Russian agent after all. Who knew, right? The answer is anybody capable of objective thinking. Seriously, you can’t say someone is basically a merciless mob boss and then say he’s Putin’s puppet. You have to pick one. It cant be both. So I wonder if there will be any accountability for the only constitutionally protected profession? How about an apology? A retraction? A source saying they overheard the media chiefdoms saying they feel horrible about the coverage? I won’t hold my breath.

But all jokes aside, a free society must have a free press that aggressively pursues the truth and keeps the government and all those in power in check. But what we have now is not a free press. They are propaganda companies masquerading as press agencies promoting tribal news that only reinforces one’s own views and damages the country in the process.

That is certainly not what the founders had in mind. Although even Thomas Jefferson once said, “Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle.” I’m not sure if he could foresee the degree in which the press would take advantage of their protected status but one things for sure. Whether you call it a corrupt vehicle, fake news, yellow journalism, or propaganda. It’s not the truth. Just like Russian collusion is not the truth and all the virtue signaling in the world can’t change that.

But I have a hunch they will persist. The fascist left are not quitters. They’ll try to say he did something even though Bob Mueller couldn’t determine what that “something” is. I’m truly interested to see what they’ll try to get him on next. They’ve burned the “he’s a racist” and #MeToo cards in Virginia but they’ll think of something. I guarantee it.

No anonymous source necessary.
