Dear editor,
The theme of National Nurses Week 2019 is “4 Million Reasons to Celebrate.” In an era of unprecedented change in healthcare, Tift Regional Health System celebrates all nurses, especially our nearly 900 employed nurses who give of themselves to meet today’s challenges. We also celebrate the graduating nursing students who will join our ranks this month.

Nurses are the heart and soul of healthcare, whether they practice in the hospital, clinics, nursing home, case management, quality, hospice or in any other area. They are the eyes and ears of the providers as well as the coordinator and implementer of the patient’s plan of care. They provide lifesaving care and perform life-changing work each day.
As frontline providers, they work tirelessly to meet the needs of our patients at all hours of the day and night. They are healers, advocates, teachers, confidants and friends. Nurses are actively sought out for advice and education regarding medications and healthcare conditions and concerns.
During this week, I hope you will join me in paying tribute to nursing, the most trusted profession. Thank a nurse that has touched your life. Their work is truly indispensable.
Sincerely,
Carol M. Smith,
Senior vice president, acute care & chief nursing officer
