The Tifton Veterans Museum is sending out a request for memorabilia to complete its collection.
Organizers and volunteers have been working for years on the museum.
It’s goal is to showcase local contributions to each armed conflict the United States has participated in, honor those who served, and provide a touchstone for younger generations to link big world events in their history books to local people.
Organizers are asking the community to lend a hand as they plan a July opening.
They are looking for pictures and items from World War I and II, Korea, Vietnam and the latest conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Photos can be scanned so the owner can keep the original.

Families have the option to loan items to the museum if they don’t want to give them up, and the museum will write a receipt for it and the item will be returned to the owner when the loan period is up.
Anyone who is interested in donating or loaning to the museum can contact Danny Bailey at 229-402-1109.
Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence
The Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence (TCFEE) recently awarded $28,797 in Incentive Grants to 29 teachers in nine schools.
That beats the previous record for dollar value of awarded grants by more than $5,000, according to TCFEE Director Mike Brumby.
Started in 1990, the TCFEE has received 1,994 applications for its Incentive Grants, with 739 grants totaling $529,000 being funded. Many are funded by the Foundation’s endowed chairs.
We congratulate the teachers and applaud the foundation’s work.
Tift County High School graduates
Tift County High School graduated 459 students at the annual ceremony on May 25.
Graduation is always a long road, harder for some students, easier for others, but a long road just the same.
We congratulate all of them and share our community’s pride.
