KINGSLAND – Tift County’s Blue Devils and Lady Devils wrapped up the regular season Friday with a sweep, giving both good spots in the upcoming region tournament.
Technically, the Lady Devils clinched No. 1 in Region 1-7A Thursday night, when Lowndes defeated Colquitt County. But they made it even better with their own 54-31 victory over Camden County.

Tift’s boys completed their sweep of Camden, 42-36, setting them up as the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
Mya Cushion stepped up Friday with 16 points, 9 during the 3rd quarter. Shakira Chaney scored 10, Braxton Gipson, 9, and Tamyra Carter, 8.
By finishing so well in region, both Tift teams avoid the first day of the tournament, which will be in their own gym this year. Colquitt County and Camden County will be opponents in both the girls and boys games Tuesday.
Tift’s boys will face the winner of Colquitt and Camden. The Lady Devils will have the luxury of waiting not only for the 3-4 game, but for Lowndes to battle its winner in the semifinal. Tift’s girls are aiming for their third consecutive region crown, a feat they have never achieved.
