Berrien defeats Tift in tennis

TIFTON — Berrien’s powerhouse tennis teams came to town Tuesday and won a pair from Tift County.
Berrien won the girls matches, 4-1 and the boys by a 3-2 count.

Head coach Jarrett Luke’s Berrien squad has made four consecutive final fours in Class AA and in seven of the past eight playoffs.
All three singles won for Berrien. Brooklyn Cersey defeated Caydence Gable, 6-3, 6-4. Carrie Osborne won over Brayden Callison, 6-1, 6-3 and Gracie Barfield defeated Anna Claire Owens, 6-1, 6-0.
Kylei Cutts and Anna Lupo won for the Lady Devils in doubles over Karla Wiley and Lexi Knight, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. Kayla Wiley and Kailey Griffin earned the other doubles match over Grayson Anne Day and Fatima Williams, 6-2, 6-3.
Tift’s boys earned victories at earned No. 2 singles and in a doubles matche.
Ben Wilson won the singles, defeating Fischer Hogan, 6-4, 6-3. Ross Peters and Rhett Stephenson were 7-6, 6-1 victors over Hayden Busque and Hamp Sirmans.
Connor Fender and Landon Rainey won at the other doubles post, 6-1, 6-3 over Christian Mathis and Nathan Beck.

Berrien’s singles wins were Brody Spruill, 6-0, 6-3 over Maitrey Patel and Chason Warren by a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Tyson Lasseter.
Steven Roberts coaches the Berrien boys. Ivey Vickers leads both the Blue Devils and Lady Devils.
Tift will be home Friday to face Camden County in Region 1-7A matches at 4 p.m. Ware County will be in Tifton for non-region matches Feb. 22.
