Region tournament resumes Thursday

TIFTON — The Region 1-7A basketball tournament is back in action tonight at Tift County High, with a pair of semifinals.
At 6 p.m., the Lowndes Vikettes take on Camden County’s Lady Wildcats. Following that game, the Tift County Blue Devils battle Camden.

Tift and Lowndes will be the favorites in Thursday’s games. Both swept their opponents during the regular season. The Blue Devils will be trying to get over .500 for the first time this season.
Finals will be Friday, with the girls winner taking on Tift County and the boys to play Lowndes. Those teams are the No. 1 seeds in the tournament and already assured of hosting a first round game in the state tournament.
Camden County advanced both teams to the semifinals after upsetting Colquitt County’s teams Tuesday in Moultrie. The Lady ‘Cats, who had not won a region game all season, took this one, 51-50.
The Packers were up big at halftime, but saw Camden erase that margin, then win in overtime, 61-55. The losses mean that both Colquitt teams will be the No. 4 teams for state.
Region will be playing Region 3 in next week’s first round. The tournament is currently underway, with finals slated for Friday.
Thursday’s girls semifinals see Hillgrove take on North Paulding and Harrison facing North Cobb. For the boys, it is Walton vs. North Paulding and Hillgrove vs. Marietta.
