Seattle Mariners designate Cade Marlowe for assignment

SEATTLE — Cade Marlowe’s tenure with the Seattle Mariners organization may have come to an end. The Mariners designated Marlowe for assignment Monday.

The move comes after Seattle signed Jorge Polanco. With its 40-man roster full, the M’s needed to make a corresponding move to free space. Marlowe was that move.

Though now not on the Mariners’ 40-man roster, the team still holds his rights — for a few days. Marlowe could be traded to another team. If Seattle does not find a new home for him within 10 days, the Tiftarea alum will be released and free to sign with another club.

Marlowe was a 20th-round draft pick by the Mariners in 2019 out of West Georgia. He made his way through the Minors, hitting at all levels. The Mariners had Marlowe around as an emergency option for the 2022 postseason, but did not officially call up him to the big leagues until July 2023.

In that first stint with the MLB Mariners, Marlowe smashes three homers, including a memorable grand slam to defeat the Angels. He was sent back down to Tacoma later in 2023, then brought back up again last summer.

Marlowe’s second Seattle run lasted eight games and eight at-bats. He hit .250 and scored one run.
