Rant and Rave for January 7, 2004

Fingerprint everyone

“I see where many, many people and the ACLU are against the fingerprinting of people coming in to this country. I think that we ought to have a card with fingerprint and name on it, every person in the United States that’s not in an old folks home, and cops be able to see them. I’m not a saint, but I don’t do illegal things and I wouldn’t care one bit for them to have one on me and the only people that would would have to be crooks or somebody who’s going to commit one.”

Wonderful care

“I would like to thank the staff at Nana’s Preschool and Day Care. They are great with my child. Keep up the good work, guys.”

Good Samaritan

“I would like to Rave about Teresa Giddens. She helped me when my car was broken down, and she was the fifth person that rode by. She was so nice. I wish every other citizen in Tift County was like her.”

Defending my rights

“As far as people smoking in a public establishment, that should be left up to the discretion of the owner of that establishment. It’s not the government’s responsibility to determine where I can and cannot smoke. I’ve had to surrender too many of my basic rights already. If you don’t like to be around smokers, go somewhere that doesn’t allow smoking. I don’t like drinking, so I don’t go to bars.”

No problem with teens

“I agree with the caller about the kids cruising. I am a shopper at the mall often. I have never had a problem with the teens letting me out. Why take the teens’ fun away from them? There is nothing for the kids to do on weekends, except go to the movies. They are only teens once, so let them cruise the mall. I would much rather see kids cruise instead of going out and drinking in some field.”

Remembering PJ

“To the family of Patrick Canty Jr. known to many as ‘PJ’, a five-year-old boy who lost his fight for life on Saturday at the Childrens Medical Center in Macon due to an ATV accident, always reflect upon the laughter and happiness that PJ brought to each of you. Know that earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal, for God knows all about your pain and he alone will see you through this moment of grief. Remember that heaven is looking down on you and your little angel (PJ) is safe in the arms of Jesus.”

My legal rights

“I have a question. Why is it that a smoker can sue a cigarette company for giving them cancer even though there is a warning on the side of the pack and yet, when I walk through a restaurant and breathe the smoke and get cancer, I can’t sue someone for my medical bills too?”

Not so loud

“There should be a law against cars and trucks with loud mufflers if there isn’t already one. The owners of these cars and trucks should take into consideration of when people go to sleep. Many times at night, I hear these vehicles at 10 and 11 at night. It seems like they always try to make their car loud by roaring up their engines. Does anyone agree?”

Patient and kind

“I have a Rave for the nurses and staff in the Pediatric and Respiratory departments at TRMC. My 2-year-old son was there Sunday through Wednesday and they were all so patient and kind. He was very scared and was difficult at times but they were always very understanding.”
