Editorial: Area events recognize Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month

April is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month and there are multiple area events recognizing it and offering training and information on prevention.

Those events include:

— Apr. 3: Pin Wheel Ceremony sponsored by Tift County Council on Child Abuse. The ceremony is at 10 a.m. at the Tift County Recreation Department Special Programs Building at 202 Baldwin Dr.

— Apr. 4: The Alliance for Children Summit is a one-day training event for people who work on behalf of child abuse victims. It is being held at Northside Baptist Church.

— Apr. 4: Parents Against Predators is being held at 7 p.m. in the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Health Sciences Building. The event is designed for adults and children ages 9 and up. More information: 229-382-4141.

— Apr. 5: National Wear Blue Day for Child Abuse Awareness.

— Apr. 17: Turner County Chamber Lunch & Learn – Child Abuse and Sexual Assault.

— Apr. 24: Stewards of Children: Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training. The training is 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Ruth’s Cottage and Patticake House Administrative Office at 108 E. 4th St. Erica Hopps and Wesley Chambers of Ruth’s Cottage will lead the training. To register: 229-387-9697.

In addition, the “What Were You Wearing?” Sexual Assault Survivors Art Installation will be popping up in different places throughout April to raise awareness of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Those places include:

— Apr. 9-12, Tift Regional Health System (front lobby and outpatient lobby).

— Apr. 16, ABAC campus at The Meadows.

— Apr. 17-19, ABAC campus at Tift Hall and Bowen Hall.

— Apr. 22-26, Fitzgerald Arts Council Office.

— Apr. 25, Business After Hours at Sylvester City Hall.
