The Tifton Gazette offers a round of applause to individuals and organizations doing good things in our community.

Northside Baptist Church congregation

Members of the congregation at Northside Baptist Church held a charity 5K and one mile fun run to raise money for their pastor’s cancer treatment. The charity race took place at the church on July 12, at 7 p.m.

Northside Baptist Church pastor Fred Evers is currently sick with esophageal cancer. While undergoing chemotherapy, he has continued to preach at his church every Sunday like he has for the last 20 years at Northside Baptist Church.

According to organizer Mike Beeman, the race brought in over 200 participants and raised over $5,000 for Evers.

“The idea [for a race] just caught fire because we just wanted to do something that would raise some money, but most important of all raise our spirits,” said Beeman. “We go through difficulties so we can help others.”

“We had no doubt how much our church loved us,” said Evers, at the race. “I didn’t know how big that love was. You have blessed us [The Evers Family] in ways that you cannot possibly imagine.”

Tiftarea Tidal Wave

The Tiftarea Tidal Wave had multiple top five finishes at the Georgia Recreation and Park Association Class B state swimming championships last weekend.

The locals recorded four first place finishes at Baldwin Drive Aquatic Center over the two days of the state meet. Unofficially, the team was seventh in competition.
