James Thomas Simpson

TIFTON — James Thomas Simpson, 59, of Tifton, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. A. D. Connell will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the maintenance department of Prestolite Wire Corporation.

The men of New River Free Holiness Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born May 4, 1943, in Tift County, Mr. Simpson was the son of Curtis Simpson and Leonia Goddard Simpson, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mavis Purvis.

Mr. Simpson was retired from Prestolite Wire and was a member of New River Free Holiness Church.

He is survived by his wife, Katie Jean Moore Simpson of Tifton; three daughters and one son-in-law, Jeannie and Chip Drawdy, Julie Snow and Jana Barnard, all of Tifton; three brothers, L. C. Simpson, Joe Simpson and Randall Simpson, all of Tifton; and six grandsons, Drew, James, Tyler, Hunter, Clayton and Devin.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.



Ellis “Baba” Bullard

SPARKS — Ellis “Baba” Bullard, 59, of Sparks, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Tift Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home. The Rev. Kyle Taft and the Rev. Jimmie Hinson will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Valdosta.

Born Sept. 1, 1943, in Berrien County, Mr. Bullard was the son of Eva Lovett Bullard of Adel and the late James “Boodie” Bullard.

A resident of Cook County most of his life, he was a longtime farmer and telephone contractor with Black Industries and was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

Along with his mother, Mr. Bullard is survived by a family friend and his care giver, Janette Womack of Lenox; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Anthony Steven and Tina Womack Bullard of Valdosta and Christopher Ellis Bullard of Adel; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa Bullard and Bobby Jones of Nashville and Regina Bullard Lambert of Valdosta; two brothers, James Bullard and Calvin Bullard, both of Adel; and four grandchildren, Dustin Allen Bullard of Adel and Christian, Brock and Bailey Jones of Nashville.

Sarah Kimble

NASHVILLE — Sarah Kimble, 95, of Nashville, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nashville First Baptist Church. The Rev. Richard Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery.

Visitation will be be held after 3 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville.

Born Dec. 20, 1907, in Wilcox County, Mrs. Kimble was the daughter of William Andrew Teel and Fannie Gladden, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Aubie Carlton Kimble, who died April 12, 1988.

Mrs. Kimble was a homemaker and a member of Nashville First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Faye Schnable of Bonaire and Patricia Copeland of Warner Robins; three sons, Carlton Kimble Jr. of Snellville, Billy Kimble of Griffin and Bobby Kimble of Nashville; one sister, Elizabeth Feagle of Jacksonville, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

VETERAN

Johnny Paul Rigsby

TIFTON — Johnny Paul Rigsby, 76, of Tifton, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Tift Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Chapel Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Pallbearers will be Michael Manley, Greg Manley, Herman Manley, Corey Fowler, Dennis Menard and Kevin Swilley.

Born Dec. 17, 1926, in Cook County, Mr. Rigsby was the son of Land Andrew Rigsby Sr. and Martha Elizabeth Roberson Rigsby, both deceased.

Mr. Rigsby was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of Georgia





Tech. He worked as an engineer with Western Union before retiring.

Survivors include one son, Alan Andrew Rigsby of Stockbridge; two sisters, Kelsey Manley and Merill Rigsby, both of Tifton; and one granddaughter, Megan Noel Rigsby of Stockbridge.

Catherine Sheftall Pope

TIFTON — Catherine Sheftall Pope, 82, of Tifton, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Tift Memorial Gardens. Father Alphonso Guiterrez will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Home in Tifton.

Born May 6, 1920 in Dade County, Fla., to the late John Armon Sheftall and Emmie Summers Sheftall, Miss Pope was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Miss Pope had lived in Tift County most of her life. She was of the Catholic faith and was a retired waitress.

Survivors include one sister, Florence Marsh of Miami, Fla., and nine nieces and nephews.

Corrine Latner

TIFTON — Corrine Oglesby Parker Latner, 85, of Tifton, formerly of Perry, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at the residence of her daughter, Kathryn Eaton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. The Rev. Eddie Hutchinson will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Born Oct. 19, 1917, in Eldorado, Ill., Mrs. Latner was the daughter of the Rev. Graham Oglesby and Lavell Widick Oglesby, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Guy B. Parker, who died in 1958; one son, Ken Parker, who died in 1999; two brothers, George Oglesby and Dwight Oglesby; and one sister, Myra NeSmith, all of Thomasville.

Mrs. Latner married L. B. Latner in 1961 and lived in Perry, Fla., for 40 years. In September 2001, her failing health brought her to Tifton to live with her daughter. Mrs. Latner was a nurse for many years in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Thomasville.

She is survived by her husband, L. B. Latner of Perry, Fla.; one daughter, Kathryn Eaton of Tifton; one daughter-in-law, Helen Thomas Parker of Thomasville; three grandchildren and spouses, Ken and Debbie Hilliard of Tifton, Rick and Vilma Hilliard of Fayetteville, N.C., and Gina Parker Gunter and Jerry Gunter of Thomasville; six nieces and nephews; and 11 grand nieces and nephews.

Helen Leonard Brooks

TIFTON — Helen Leonard Brooks, 91, of Tifton, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Tift Health Care.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Born Dec. 7, 1911, in Bennington, Vt., Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of Thomas Leonard and Delia Fitzgerald Leonard, both deceased. She was also preceded in one son, Kenneth L. Brooks.

Mrs. Brooks was a retired legal secretary and a member of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by one brother, Thomas Leonard of Pennsylvania; one sister, Loretta Murphy of Ohio; seven grandchildren, Patricia Andrews of Baltimore, Md., Kenneth L. Brooks Jr. of Milton, Fla., Kathleen Horak of Tifton, Nancy Pillucere of St. Petersburg, Fla., Thomas Brooks of Zephyrhills, Fla., Martha Pekarek of San Antonio, Texas, and Susan Ripley of Lakeland, Fla.; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Melvin Hall

TIFTON — Howard Melvin Hall, 79, of Tifton, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Eddie Allen will officiate. Burial will follow at the Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Bowen-Donaldson.

Born May 23, 1923, in Tift County, Mr. Hall was the son of William Martin Hall and Linnie Jane Shell Hall, both deceased.

He was a retired meat cutter and a member of the Baptist faith.
