TIFTON — A young Tifton driver was severely injured Monday morning when she failed to negotiate a curve on Zion Hope Road and flipped the vehicle she was driving.

Jennifer Moore, 16, 1708 Snapfinger Drive, was traveling east on Zion Hope Road when the accident occurred at 11:20 a.m. Moore reportedly could not make the curve and her 1995 Toyota left the roadway approximately 1/2 mile east of Early Hutchinson Road. The vehicle came to rest upside down on the north shoulder of Zion Hope Road.

Several people who live in the area of the accident stopped to see if they knew who was involved in the accident. One of them was Rev. Olin Hamlin, pastor at Zion Hope Baptist Church.

“This is a bad curve. It will deceive you because it is sharper than it looks,” Hamlin said.

Tift County Emergency Medical personnel first transported Moore to Tift Regional Medial Center. A TRMC spokesperson said late Monday afternoon she was in critical condition and had been transported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. A spokesperson there said Moore was expected to arrive, but no information on her condition was as yet available.

No further information about the accident was available Monday.

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol Post 13 in Tifton lead the accident investigation and were assisted by deputies with the Tift County Sheriff’s Department. Tift County Firefighters also responded.

A one-vehicle accident Saturday on U.S. Highway 82 West left one man with visible injuries, but he was not transported for treatment.

Jeffrey Rae Brown, 31, 4524 Cinderbed Drive, Jacksonville, Fla., told troopers he fell asleep at the wheel and left the roadway.

Brown’s vehicle, a 1993 Volvo Conventional owned by Magic Transportation, left the roadway approximately 2/10 mile west of Ga. Highway 11 after he lost control of the vehicle. The truck then struck a tree with its front bumper. The truck jackknifed and came to rest in a wooded area.

Brown was charged with driving with an expired license and an equipment violation. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

Brown was visibly injured but was not transported for treatment.

Three Tifton women were treated and released after a two-vehicle accident on County Road 418 at the Eldorado Road Exit of I-75.

Mary Pearl Stevens, 56, 3104 King Drive, was driving a 1987 Honda Accord east on County Road 418 when she failed to yield to oncoming traffic and entered the roadway. She struck a 1985 Mercedes driven by Pamela Kay White, 39, 89 Ponder Road.

Both drivers and a passenger in Stevens’ car, Gwendolyn Stevens, 44, 3104 King Drive, complained of injuries. All were transported to TRMC where they were treated and released.

All were wearing seat belts.
