Tift tennis wins twice over Ware

TIFTON — Tift County went undefeated in singles matches Tuesday afternoon and swept the invading Ware County Gators.

The six singles competitors — Caydence Gabel, Brayden Callison, Anna Claire Owens, Maitrey Patel, Ben Wilson and Ross Peters — all won straight sets. Even better, the Lady Devils only dropped three of the 39 games they played in singles.

Gabel won over Lauren Moore, 6-1, 6-0, with Callison defeating Makenna Hall, 6-0, 6-1. Owens’ victory was against Elly Garza, 6-0, 6-1.

Wilson defeated William Bates, 6-1, 6-1. Peters’ win was against Luke Crosy, 6-3, 6-1, with Patel defeating James Willingham, 6-6 (8-5), 6-1.

In doubles, Kylei Cutts and Anna Lupo combined to defeat Libby Ruger and Emma Smith, 6-3, 6-4. Molly Wells and Fatima Williams dropped a pair of close sets to Makayla Moore and Kamiyah Greer, 6-6 (11-9), 6-4 (10-6).

The Gators won both doubles matches.

Conor Brennan and Joseph Hampton won over Rhett Stephenson and Christian Mathis, 6-1, 1-6 (10-3) and Nick Simmons and Jon Robertson won against Nathan Beck and Tyson Laseiter, 7-5, 6-2.

Tift was scheduled to visit Colquitt County Wednesday in Region 1-7A matches. Feb. 28 sees them scheduled to visit Irwin County, then Lowndes a day later.
