NASHVILLE — The Berrien varsity girls tennis team hosted Pepperell in the second round of the state playoffs. Berrien swept Pepperell 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Rabun County is next on the agenda and fortunately, Berrien’s side of the bracket won the coin flip. That means the Lady Wildcats from Tiger will be making the five-hour trip south, instead of vice-versa.

Gracie Barfield won her singles match to put Berrien ahead 1-0. Brooklyn Cersey then won her singles match 6-1, 6-0.

Berrien’s other singles player Carrie Osborne won her singles match 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the match and send the squad into the state quarterfinals.

For good measure, they added both doubles contests: Karla Wiley and Lexi Knight won, 6-4, 6-2 and Kayla Wiley and Kailey Griffin won, 6-2, 6-3.

This is Berrien’s ninth consecutive year in the elite eight. They are now 20-2 overall. Head coach Jarrett Luke said he was proud of his team.

No date and time have been set yet for the quarterfinals.
