TIFTON — Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has called for a special election to choose a district attorney to serve the Tifton Judicial Circuit.
The election, to be held March 18 across Irwin, Tift, Turner, and Worth counties, would fill the vacancy for the position left by the late Bryce Johnson, who passed away in December.
Patrick Warren, appointed to chief assistant district attorney by Johnson, is currently serving as the acting district attorney in his stead until the election can designate an official successor.
Qualifying for this special election will be held from Jan. 21 until Jan. 23 at the Secretary of State’s Office at 238 East Second St. in Tifton. Interested candidates may qualify from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 22, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 23. Candidates must pay a qualifying fee of $3,884.19.
Residents must register to vote by Feb. 18 to be eligible to vote in the election. Advance in-person and absentee voting will begin Feb. 24.
If required, a run-off election has been scheduled for April 15.
